Welcome to the Victory Class Web Page!

Our Teacher is Mrs Lewis, we feel that she is kind and helpful. In the morning Mrs Hawkins works alongside Mrs Lewis to help us learn in a more focused way during our Literacy and Numeracy lessons. Mrs Hawkins is caring and always ready to lend a hand.

In Year 1 we like to be independent learners.

We start the day by self-registering, which we do by putting our name card on the hot dinner or the packed lunch chart. After this we empty our book bag and undertake out spellings before we go into assembly at 9.05am, there is a lot to fit into the first 10 minutes of the day, but we always manage to do it all, so we always make sure we arrive in school on time.

After assembly we begin our literacy lesson, this takes us up until our fruit break. We are lucky and get lots of fruit to choose from during the term, apples, satumas, pears, bananas and also carrots from time to time, we enjoyed drinking our milk and sharing our time together with our snack, before we rush off to playtime.

When it's dry we can play on the grass and go into the Treasure Wood, in the far end corner of our school grounds. The Treasure Wood is exciting because we can see squirrels, mini-beasts and in the Spring time lots of bluebells, daffodils and snowdrops, which all grow there.

After playtime, we line up and come back together in our class area and share some quality time together as a class reading 'Cuddles' diary from the day before. Cuddles goes home with someone from year one every night and then writes about what happened with that person, he has a great time and undertakes lots of different activities, we all enjoy hearing about his experiences.

The next slot of time is Numeracy. We often use the interactive whiteboard, (Mrs Lewis is very good at sorting this out for us) which we love to play games on, explore web pages and practice different mathematical strategies, to help us understand new mathematical words and ideas. We do this for about an hour, including small guided group time, practical learning and applying of maths', at the end of the session we all come together and reviewing our learning from the lesson, as well as plan our next targets and learning steps. Next, we move into our reading groups for some guided reading time with our teacher, or it is time for us to share some reading games or stories with our friends, or work with Mrs Hawkins on spellings, handwriting or focused targets. We all enjoy working hard to achieve our targets and if we work really hard we often get stickers, certificates or activity points as rewards.

In the afternoon we do PE, Music, Art and Topic work. We keep our learning environment tidy because that is a safe way to learn. We like making things, recently during the Spring term we have made dragons to celebrate Chinese New Year, which was also part of our multi-cultral week and then linked into Arts Week, see some of the pictures on our page which show how wonderful our worked looked. We shared our knowledge about China with our parents in our class assembly on Tuesday 12th February, they really enjoyed this and learnt some chines words, as well as laughing as we demonstrated how to use chopsticks! We always like our displays to link to our topic and theme. For the next half term (Feb' 08 -April 08) we will focus our learning in and around the theme of 'Spring'.

Summer First Half Term

This half term in year 1 we have been busy thinking about AIR and linking it in as many ways as we can with all the areas of the curriculum.
We have created dream catchers, thought about questions we want to find out about air, designed and made kites, thought about travelling by air and hope you enjoy all the photographs below which will help remind us in the future of all we have learnt and the fun we have had this half term.

Travels with Barnaby Bear

This half term, Mrs Lewis and her class are collecting postcards from around the world and creating a display to highlight different locations around the world. This will support their geography learning this term.
